Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) under the direction of the Director of Adult Services oversees the overall coordination of medical and dental needs of the individuals supported. The Director of Nursing will also serve as the Medication Administration Program (MAP) Consultant as outlined in the MAP consultant responsibilities. The DON must at all times, act professionally and have the ability to multi-task.
This position is directly accountable to the Director of Adult Services who provides supervision. The Director of Nursing is a salaried position, who is exempt from overtime and at all times abides by Agency confidentiality policies. Due to the nature of the workflow and level of responsibility, the Director of Nursing maintains a flexible schedule, which may go beyond a forty-hour work.

Competencies/Skills:
Demonstrated ability to perform nursing medical assessments, effectively triage day-to-day emergencies, phone calls, and/or other medically related situations that may arise.Demonstrated ability to review, analyze, and make recommendations on relevant incident reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively review and interpret lab, x-ray, and other evaluation reports and consults.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with in-house physicians, outside specialists, funding agencies, and parents/guardians as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promotes a respectful and dignified living environment for all individuals at all times;
  • Provides supervision to HCL/LPN case management oversight of medical/dental needs for individuals supported.  To include but not limited to completing progress notes; writing and /or reviewing consultation reports; clarifying doctor’s orders;
  • Effectively communicate medical information/updates to residential staff, day program staff, HCLs, family members, and other stakeholders., as necessary;
  • Adheres to all requirements and regulations as outlined by the DPH and Crystal Springs MAP policies and procedures, including but not limited to medication reviews and MAP audits;
  • Provides direction and recommendations to certified MAP staff by the MAP consultant responsibilities/regulations outlined by DPH and Crystal Springs policy;
  • Assist, in conjunction with supervisors and HCL/LPN the coordination and attendance at medical appointments and follow-up appointments with individuals served;
  • Monitor individual’s medical status in conjunction with HCL/LPN, agency nurses, consultants, and medical providers, as necessary;
  • To provide effective consultation to program staff and act as liaison with other medical providers, consultants, or nurses as necessary;
  • Attendance at specialized medical appointments to ensure accuracy and conciseness of individual’s needs;
  • Act as primary liaison with agency nursing, medical professionals, and other providers about the unique medical/dental needs of individuals served;
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and education to program staff surrounding the complex medical needs of people served;
  • Ensure medical records and documentation comply with MADDS, DPH/MAP, and Crystal Springs regulations;
  • Attend ISP for people served to provide valuable medical information to the team;
  • To act as a functioning member of the Adult Team, attending and contributing to all required meetings/trainings related to Adult Services;
  • To effectively review all orders provided by medical/dental/practitioners to ensure accuracy and consistency of care to individuals served;
  • To review in conjunction with HCL/LPN orders that may require skilled nursing care to individuals as ordered by practitioners to include but not limited to those skilled nursing tasks outside the scope of a MAP direct care staff and identify as such for all team members;
  • To effectively train MAP staff in the application of treatments/orders from practitioners to ensure individuals receive optimal care, as necessary;
  • To provide additional training, and direction to certified MAP staff who are identified as needing additional support/direction;
  • Complete all MADDS, DPH/MAP, Crystal Springs, and other regulatory agency documentation in a timely, concise, and effective manner, according to established protocols and regulations. To include but not limited to: Progress notes; health care records, court documents, etc…, as necessary;
  • Ensure that all medical/dental appointments for individuals are up to date; lab work is current and all referrals and specialized medical care are current;
  • To make routine visits to individuals hospitalized ensuring consistency of communication regarding the individual’s status;
  • To actively participate in all hospital discharges for individuals supported by ensuring the accuracy of information, clarity of orders and overall Treatment Care Plan is in place upon return to residence;
  • Cooperate and participate in internal investigations;
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses and Healthcare Liaisons.
  • Directly responsible to and supervised by the Director of Adult Services.
Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Massachusetts in good standing
Language/Communication Skills:
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in spoken and written English; and to read and comprehend work-related documents that are almost exclusively written in English.
Salary & Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $89,440 - $95,680 based on experience and education.  In addition to your base salary, the company is currently providing enhanced compensation in the form of Staff Retention Pay (SRP).  The SRP rate for this role is $5.00 per hour ($10,500 annually).  The SRP rate is currently being evaluated by the State of MA but in effect at CSI after June 30th 2024 until we are notified that it may be rescinded.
